LANSING -- State Representative Marie Donigan (D-Royal Oak), with medical professionals from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak; St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights; and Wright & Filippis, hosted a town hall meeting Monday that focused on senior health issues.
"These are a number of issues that are vital to our seniors and I wanted to make sure we had a discussion that was informative, easy to understand and useful," Donigan said. "I also want to encourage our seniors, and all of Michigan's citizens, to continue to learn more about health, lead healthier lives, and make healthier choices. Education is the best prevention."
Professionals from Beaumont provided information and demonstrations on cardiac care and preventing cancer. Officials from St. John's provided free blood pressure and free bone density screenings. Members of Wright & Filippis provided information on home accessibility and creating barrier-free environments for seniors and disabled individuals.
"We wanted to provide an environment where our seniors could get answers to their questions while also being able to check elements of their own health," Donigan said. "The information and demonstrations provided by Beaumont, St. John's and Wright & Filippis were extremely beneficial in helping our seniors understand and improve their health status."
