LANSING – In response to Governor Jennifer M. Granholm's State of the State Address tonight, State Representatives Marie Donigan (D-Royal Oak) and Aldo Vagnozzi (D-Farmington/Farmington Hills) praised her for her leadership and commitment to create jobs, fight outsourcing, expand health care and strengthen education for Michigan's children.
"Governor Granholm has a bold plan to diversify Michigan's economy, create thousands of new jobs, strengthen education and stop outsourcing," Donigan said. "Oakland County Democrats are ready to get to work. We're committed to moving Michigan forward."
Donigan praised the Governor's call to expand her $2 billion 21st Century Jobs Plan; invest $1 billion in state-federal funds to provide health coverage to the 500,000 Michigan workers who are currently uninsured; and invest in education through a $4,000 New Merit Scholarship.
Vagnozzi applauded the Governor for urging Michigan to end tax breaks for companies that outsource jobs; increase home heating funds; and raise the minimum wage.
"Our priority is to protect Michigan's working families," Vagnozzi said. "We have to show our citizens that we value hard work and hold big corporations accountable."
Donigan called on House Republicans to work with the Governor to create jobs and improve the quality of life for Michigan families.
"The partisan attacks must stop," Donigan said. "We have to act now to improve the quality of life for all Michigan residents."
