LANSING – State Representative Marie Donigan (D-Royal Oak) was named 2008 Michigan Legislator of the Year by the Michigan Municipal League (MML) at a reception held on Friday, Oct. 3.
"It means a great deal to me to be honored by the Michigan Municipal League," Donigan said. "The demand for public transit options continues to increase dramatically all across the state and there is much more that we need to do. I am grateful for the MML's support in my fight to help move Michigan forward."
The award ceremony was part of the MML's 110th Annual Convention held Oct.1 through 4 at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Donigan has been a longtime advocate for improving public transit across the state by offering more efficient mass transit options. Since coming to Michigan House of Representatives, Donigan has tirelessly worked to sustain funding for increased public transportation. She is a member of the House Transportation Committee and serves as Chair of the House Public Transit Subcommittee.
"We are very grateful for Rep. Donigan's efforts to improve public transit in our state," said Dan Gilmartin, Executive Director of the Michigan Municipal League. "She has been a champion to solve our gridlocked infrastructure not just in southeast Michigan, but throughout the state, and she truly believes that making better communities will lead to a better Michigan. We are proud to say that we consider Rep. Donigan a friend of the League and look forward to our continuing work with her to enact policies that will make Michigan a great place once again."
