LANSING – State Representative Marie Donigan (D-Royal Oak) today was sworn in to her third term in the Michigan House of Representatives during a ceremony at the State Capitol marking the beginning of the 95th Legislature.
"It is my honor to continue to serve as the voice of our community in Lansing," said Donigan, who represents the 26th House District, which covers Royal Oak and Madison Heights. "I will continue to fight to create more good-paying jobs for our hard-working residents and to strengthen our schools to ensure every Michigan child has the opportunity to earn a first-class education."
Throughout her first term in the House, Donigan has championed the effort to improve public transit across the state by offering more efficient mass transit options and has tirelessly worked to sustain funding for increased public transportation.
In addition, a plan proposed by Donigan during her first month as a legislator in 2005 that will help provide better services and funding for organizations that perform services to treat sexual assault victims for physical and psychological trauma and evidence-gathering for prosecutions was recently signed into law.
"It's clear that improving our economy must be our No. 1 priority, and in order to do that we must create more good-paying jobs in Michigan," Donigan said. "But those jobs don't just fall out of the sky. They are a result of a combination of ingredients, such as giving our schools the tools they need to train a workforce, giving businesses reasons to move to Michigan, and improving our infrastructure to make our state a great place to do business. I look forward to getting down to business with my colleagues in this new Legislature and moving our great state forward."
