LANSING – State Representative Marie Donigan (D-Royal Oak) presented Royal Oak Community Library with a legislative proclamation Wednesday, celebrating National Library Week and recognizing the library for its service to the community.
"Libraries are a very important part of the community and it is my pleasure to present this tribute to the Royal Oak Community Library," Donigan said. "Books not only educate the mind, but also enrich the soul. Libraries offer a place for us to come together and learn – they are vital in educating our workforce to prepare for good-paying jobs now."
Donigan presented the tribute prior to the Royal Oak Community Library's monthly health lecture series. She also will present a tribute to the Madison Heights Public Library on Friday.
First held in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of the nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
"Libraries are the catalysts that connect people to technology and information in the community," Donigan said. "Having a thriving library is essential to enriching our communities and making Michigan a place where people want to live, work and raise their families."
